The Yazoo City Lady Indians fell to 1-3 on the season after dropping a 74-48 decision to the Vicksburg Missy Gators this past Tuesday night. Yazoo City trailed by six, 16-10, after one quarter of play, but the Missy Gators began to heat up in the second quarter. Vicksburg outscored the Lady Indians 20-16 in the second frame to increase their lead to 36-26 at the half.
The hot-shooting continued for Vicksburg in the third quarter as they capitalized on perimeter mismatches to go on a 24-7 run to put the game out of reach. Yazoo City rallied to outscore Vicksburg 15-10 in the final frame but the game's outcome was already decided.
Vaniya Gates led the way for the Lady Indians with a team-high 20 points. LaNisha Richardson followed with nine, LyNell Campbell had eight and Janyla Brown had four. Other scorers were Danasia Lewis with three, and Makayla White, Ebonee Brown, Makyra Foreman and Ronnisha Richardson each with one. Yazoo City traveled to rival Yazoo County on Thursday night and play in the Gentry Thanksgiving Tournament November 24-25.
Although the team is very young and somewhat inexperienced they will excel in athletics as they are currently in academics," said first-year head coach Stacey Leach. "We're a work in progress, but I am truly proud that 85 percent of my team received academic awards for the first nine weeks."
