The Lady Panthers of Yazoo County dominated their rivals from Yazoo City High by a score 68-26 on Thursday night.
The win gave the Lady Panthers a winning record once more at 3-2.
Yazoo County jumped all over Yazoo City in the first quarter of play, outscoring them 12-2.
Things got no better for the Lady Indians in the second quarter. Yazoo County’s stifling defense forced turnover after turnover that led to baskets by the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panthers dominated the quarter completely, outscoring them 21-2 to make it a 33-4 game at the half.
The offensive onslaught continued for the Lady Panthers in the beginning of the second half, as they put up 24 points to Yazoo City’s five points, making it a 57-9 game with a whole quarter left to play.
Yazoo County head coach Patrick Nutter called off the dogs in the fourth quarter, allowing Yazoo City to close the gap a little bit with their reserves, bringing the final score to 68-26.
Sophomore Chloe Edwards led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 18 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc.
Akeriunna Frierson was right behind Edwards with 16 points of her own.
Aquasia Edwards chipped in 12 points, while Shaymia Douglas rounded out the double-digit scorers for Yazoo County with 10 points.
The loss dropped the Lady Indians to 1-4 on the season.
The rematch between the Lady Panthers and Lady Indians is set for Monday night at Yazoo City High.
Tip-off for the first high school game will be at 6 p.m.
