The Yazoo City Indians snapped a 4-game losing streak last week with a 34-19 victory over the Clarksdale Wildcats. The win improved the Indians’ overall record to 7-16 and more importantly kept them in second place in the district with a 3-2 mark.
Yazoo City opened things up against the Wildcats with an 11-2 first quarter. The visiting Wildcats began to get into a groove in the second quarter, but the Indians were determined not to let their lead slip away. Both teams scored six points in the quarter and Yazoo City went into the locker room with a 17-8 halftime lead.
The game’s slow and methodical pace continued in the second half as the Indians put six points on the scoreboard to Clarksdale’s four, giving them a 23-12 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter. The Indians matched their first quarter output of 11 points in the final quarter and Clarksdale managed to score just seven, leading to the 34-19 final margin.
Leading the way in scoring for the Indians was junior shooting guard F.J. Lewis with 11 points. Percy Green followed with nine, Will Grayson had six and Daon Henry, Jaquaris Rogers, Jacquarrius Collum and Robert Robinson each chipped in with two points to round out the scoring.
The Indians returned to action Monday night in a non-conference matchup against the visiting Hazlehurst Indians.
