Yazoo City rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 24-21 win over Crystal Springs.
The victory brought the Indian’s record to 3-1, giving them their most wins in a season since Tony Woolfolk’s final season with the Indians in 2013.
The Indians took an early lead and never looked back.
Yazoo City head coach Timothy Johnson credited the play of his quarterback and offensive line for much of the success.
“We jumped on them quick,” Johnson said. “Roncedrick did an awesome job on his reads. Our offensive line did an awesome job of blocking.”
The Indians were up 18-0 before Crystal Springs clawed their way back into the game, but they were never able to catch up. The Indians won 24-21.
Despite racking up 661 yards of total offense, the Indians only scored 24 points.
Johnson believes his aggressive coaching style can come up with big rewards and occasional missteps, though he’s willing to accept it all.
“We went for it a lot on 4th down,” Johnson said. “We came up short on some. That’s my style. I believe in my guys. If they think we can get it and my OC says he has a play for it, we’ll go for it. We’ll do what it takes to get the upper hand in a game.”
Yazoo City quarterback Roncedrick Weekly made big play after big play all night long. He complete 17-of-21 passes for 427 yards (25.1 yards per completion) with two touchdowns and one interception. On the ground, he added five rushes for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior Jared Waters rushed eight times for 86 yards. He also hauled in three passed for 83 yards and a score.
Tommy Washington hauled in three catches for 149 yards and a touchdown.
Kory Price had four catches for 77 yards, while Rorecoss Willis had four catches for 65 yards.
Javarious Grady led the defense with 11 total tackles and four sacks.
Parviz King had 10 total tackles and four sacks in the win.
Latavis Taylor also had 10 total tackles and two sacks.
Brennen Jones had an interception in the win.
