Yazoo City native Kinkead Dent began living a dream over the weekend as he led the Ole Miss Rebels to a touchdown in the Grove Bowl, which gives fans a look at the future of the University of Mississippi’s football team.
The true freshman completed 4-of-12 passes for 36 yards and had six carries for 50 yards. He came through with a first down on with a 13-yard scramble on fourth and 11 and led the team on a scoring drive that ended with a field goal.
Dent, who began his high school career at Manchester Academy before transferring to Jackson Academy, had offers from other universities, but ultimately accepted an offer from Ole Miss.
Many observers considered Dent to be the most impressive of the freshmen backup quarterbacks who are likely to represent the future of the team.
Dent had an outstanding high school career, passing for over 4,500 yards and rushing for over 2,000 at Manchester and Jackson Academy. In his senior season at JA, he completed 88-of-170 passes for 1,375 yards and had 130 carries for 909 yards. He also gained speed and size heading into his senior season, which helped make him a more attractive candidate for college coaches.
The Rebels kick off the 2019 season on Aug. 31 at Memphis.
