Yazoo City’s Indians and Lady Indians dropped contests to 6A power Clinton High School in their return to the court following the ice closures.
The festivities began when the Lady Indians stepped onto the court with the Lady Arrows, one of the toughest tests they would face all season long.
The Lady Arrows took the fight to Yazoo City in the first quarter, putting up 17 points to their 7 to take an early lead.
In the second quarter, Clinton was able to extend their lead dramatically, outscoring Yazoo City 23-5 to make it a 40-12 game at the half.
At the half, the Lady Indians had the opportunity to rejuvenate themselves and regain their focus.
They displayed all of that in the third quarter of play.
The Lady Indians battled and battled, but they came up just short, getting outscore 18-14 to bring the score to 58-26 with only a quarter remaining in the game.
Clinton has become known for their ability to put away close games this season, and it was on full display in the fourth quarter, where they outscored the Lady Indians 16-4 to bring the final to 74-30.
In the final game of the evening, the Indians took on the Arrows in a non-conference battle that would help Yazoo City gauge where they were this late in the season before heading into their final stretch of district contests.
The final calculation showed that they were close to where they needed to be.
Yazoo City’s Indians fell 74-60 to the Arrows in a game that was closer than the score suggested.
The Indians and Lady Indians faced Greenwood on Tuesday night, but it was not upon completion by press time.
Yazoo City will return to action on Friday night when they host Clarksdale High School.
Tip-off for the first game is set for 6 p.m.
