Local sporting events have been canceled in an effort to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Even practices have been canceled in most cases.
Greg Shaffer, director of the Yazoo Parks & Recreation Commission, announced on Monday that all Yazoo parks will be closed at least until March 23. This week the city declared an emergency order that will likely extend the park closings.
Yazoo’s youth baseball and softball programs are also on hold.
Most of the softball teams began practice last week, but practices have been suspended for this week. The baseball teams have not started practicing yet, but the commission announced this week that all activities will be suspended until April 4.
The Yazoo Wildcats football team also canceled practices that were scheduled to begin at the complex.
