The Benton Academy Lady Raiders are now 7-4 in their season with a district record of 2-3 after falling on Tuesday to the Porter's Chapel Lady Eagles.
Despite every effort from the Lady Raiders, they were unable to penetrate through the Lady Eagle Defense, whose pitcher threw a perfect game, striking out every Benton girl that approached the plate.
Porter's Chapel ended up winning the district game 12-0 over four innings, but the Lady Raider's never gave up.
Some of the biggest plays on defense came from the younger players on infield who stepped up to fill in for their injured teammates, Gracey Manor and Zoi Pate.
"We had two double plays in the field and our young pitchers Ella McCain and Kaitlyn Warren did a great job throwing strikes," said Benton's softball coach Natalie Whitehead.
Some other plays on defense came from players in the outfield, including Gracey Manor, and Brittany Bigford. Lauren Pigg and Clara Ann Yeates were also quick on their feet by stopping balls that were slammed into the infield by the Lady Eagles.
"I'm not sure if the outcome would have been different or not even with everyone healthy," Whitehead said. "We will see how we do when we play them again in two weeks."
Next the Lady Raiders have their sights set on a rematch at Manchester Academy on September 3. Whitehead said that the team will continue to practice and focus on hitting over the long holiday weekend.
