Robert Virgil “Bob” Luby, Jr., 77, of Benton, was called home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 27, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Born August 25, 1947 in Yazoo City to Virgil and Sadie Luby, he was a 1965 graduate of Benton High School before going on to eventually work the better part of 38 years for Delta Muffler in its various incarnations and locations around Canton, Brandon, and Yazoo City.
Later in life, he came to appreciate simply being outside in the country while drinking his morning coffee and making his morning calls, feeding the animals or cutting the grass, and there was little he enjoyed more than working in the shop with Frank or heading to the latest fishing spot with T.J.
He never met a stranger, always quick to make a joke even if they were 30 years out-of-date, and never found a meal that didn’t need salt before even tasting it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert V. Luby, Sr. and Sadie M. Luby of Yazoo City, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth Jones and Tommy D. Jones, Sr. of Biloxi, MS, brother-in-law, C. Melvin Davis, Sr. of Oxford, MS and faithful chihuahua, Nina.
He is survived by a son, Robert V. “Trey” Luby, III and granddaughter, Sadie Grace Luby, of Metairie, LA, a sister, Bettye L. Davis of Oxford, two maternal aunts, many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and Frank and Jean Henson of Benton, MS who were as much family to him as anyone.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson who made his final time with us as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Midway Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Jessie Byrd.
