Richard Samuel Cain, 74, of Flora, went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2025. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Damascus Baptist Church in Flora with visitation at 9:30 a.m. and services to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Bentonia immediately following the service.
Richard was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, and friend. Richard was born in Quitman County to Hubert Wayne and Clarsie Cain. He grew up in Yazoo City and graduated from Yazoo City High School. On February 14, 1975, he married Mona Thrash. Together, they raised two children, Justin and Kayla. Richard dedicated 35 years of service to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 2005. He went to work for private contractors managing disaster relief and construction projects for the next decade. Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life, but his greatest joy was spending time with his wife and children. Nothing meant more to Richard than his family. He was a hard working, loving, caring man. His quirky sense of humor along with his quiet disposition brought smiles to many faces.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Justin; his sisters, Earline (Gene) Ray, Etoy (Tommy) Holeman, and Dorothy “Nell” (Robert) Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mona Cain; his daughter Kayla (Matt) Martin; and a multitude of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Pall bearers are Chad Thrash, Britt Johnson, Colton Walker, John Symon, Trace Saxton, Matthew Martin, Sidney Potter, and Allen Nelson. Honorary pall bearers are Ronnie Johnson and J.C. Hilderbrand.
