Dear Editor:
I want to publicly congratulate Jamie Patterson on her second Bill Minor Award, this time for general news reporting. I have already sent my good wishes to her personally, and she knows how much I enjoy her story writing ability and articles in The Yazoo Herald. Her love and interest in veterans spurred her to cover some wonderful stories about them when the Vietnam Memorial Wall came to Yazoo. But I most admire her dedication to our city, her job and most of all her family.
As young people are steadily moving away from our city, we should be thankful that a young couple like Jason and Jamie Patterson choose to live, work, worship and raise their family here!! I have often told them “I don’t know how y’all do it,” all the responsibilities of the paper, community events, being “seen” all around town to cover meetings, games, events, you name it, one if not both of them is present. What is really amazing is handling all these duties while raising three beautiful children.
I am sure I’m not the only person proud of your achievements but when I read you will be speaking at Millsaps as “an Award –winning Mississippi Journalist” it really hit me what an awesome award in your career it is!! Keep up the great writing and reporting and savor time with the family too!!
Sincerely,
Kay A. Mills
