We are living through strange times. It seems that most major decisions now days, the ones that directly affect you and me, are based on someone’s “model.”
Some unseen person with a computer told us that his/her model showed that 250,000 American citizens would die of the coronavirus.
I must admit that when I heard this terrible news, I became concerned. That is a lot of people that will perish at the hands of an invisible enemy.
To make matters worse, my oldest daughter, a healthcare professional, sat me down and gave me the “talk.” “You are at the vulnerable age,” she began, “so if you catch this virus, you may die. The State of Mississippi is already preparing for mass casualties, and you don’t want to be in this group.”
I must admit that she had my full attention. Stories were beginning to circulate that refrigerator trucks were being moved into strategic locations to receive the people who had died. Funeral homes would be overwhelmed. Crematories, even working 24/7 couldn’t handle the load. Large beads of sweat were now forming on my forehead. My imagination was running wild. “Family members won’t even be allowed to attend the funeral of a loved one,” I thought.
I really went into panic mode when Dr. Anthony Fauci announced on national TV that the 250,000 number was real. I had to believe Dr Fauci. After all, he was the expert, the smartest infectious disease doctor in the world. These numbers were echoed by Dr. Deborah Birx, also an expert on COVID-19, and she was working around the clock. She reminded us often that she did not receive her “numbers” until after 2 a.m.
“What dedication,” I thought. “We are fortunate to have these great experts telling us what to do. Unlike me, they never sleep. Where did the President find these people?
After the “talk”, I stayed depressed for a couple of hours, then went turkey hunting. “Surely no self-respecting turkey would have the coronavirus,” I thought.
While deep in the woods, a thought occurred to me. “How is Dr. Fauci’s models different from the “global warming models?” Al Gore and his friends have been modeling “climate change, (global warming) for years, and thank the Good Lord, they have been wrong every time they make a cataclysmic pronouncement. For example, Gore predicted over ten years ago that New York City would now be underwater because of the seas rising. Rush Limbaugh created the “Doomsday Clock,” and counted off the year, day, the hour, and the second that New York would become part of the Atlantic Ocean. The seas did not rise, and New York City is still standing.
Suddenly, it was like a lighting bolt had jump started my brain. Modeling is nothing more than a guess. Feed garbage into a computer program and garbage comes out. “Could Fauci and Birx be wrong,” I wondered.
This insight has proved correct. Soon Fauci, et al, revised their numbers down, then reduced them again. Even in New York where the pandemic appears to be the worst, there are vacant hospital beds. There are plenty of ventilators to serve those who need them, and hydroaxychlorquine is proving to be an effective drug against Coved-19. For weeks, Dr. Fauci insisted that this drug was unproven and ineffective while the President was insisting that critically ill patients should give it a try. He was correct; Fauci was wrong! Imagine that. Of course, the reporters at CNN and MSNBC had to double their psychotropic drugs just to make it through another day.
We still don’t have a vaccine for COVID-19, and until we do, it will still be around. This virus is dangerous, and under the right circumstances, it can and will kill you. Protect yourself and your family, but use some common sense and don’t believe everything that the “experts” say. Their models have been wrong in the past and will probably be wrong in the future. I think I may see a light at the end of the tunnel.
