Roy Lee Shackelford, 74, of Benton passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30-11 a.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Funeral services are Thursday at 11 at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clint Ritchie officiating.
Mr. Shackelford was a member of First Baptist Church.
Roy Lee began his military career on May 11, 1959. He rose through the ranks as an enlisted soldier reaching the rank of Sargent First Class while serving in the 112th Military Police Battalion.
On December 12, 1979, he was appointed as a Warrant Officer, serving in the position of Automotive Maintenance Technician in HHD, 112th Military Police Battalion while being reassigned to the Wheel Vehicle Maintenance Technician Position and rising to the grade of CW3.
On May 1, 1989, he transferred to Det 1, STARC MS ARNG and was assigned as the Wheel Vehicle Maintenance Technician. On July 1, 1994, he was assigned as the Wheel Vehicle Maintenance Technician for the 66th Troop Command.
On December 12, 1994, he was promoted to the rank of CW4, and on December 9, 1996, his position was reclassified as Unit Maintenance Technician. He retired from this position.
Chief Warrant Officer Roy Lee Shackelford retired with 42 years, 9 months, and two days of service on February 13, 2002.
Roy Lee was preceded in death by his parents; Jesse LeRoy and Ruby Lee Shackelford; and his son, Scott Reeves Shackelford.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn Shackelford of Benton; son, Jay Shackelford of Benton; grandchildren, Brandan Coleman, Reeves Shackelford, Hunter Shackelford, Clint Shackelford and Whitley Shackelford; great-grandchildren Ava and T Coleman; and brother Bobby Shackelford of Gonzales, La.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary Pall Bearers are James Grady Davis, William Allen Hood, William “Bill” Poole, Ricky Shackelford, David Shackelford, Charlie Myers, and Bob Crum.
