Phillip Nolan Dixon, Sr, 86, of Benton, Mississippi, passed away at home surrounded by his family after a long fought battle with cancer June 30, 2017.
One of seven children, he was born on October 31, 1930, in Yazoo County to the late James N. and Hazel Mize Dixon of the Scotland Community.
He attended Benton High School. He was married to Louise Stricklin of Yazoo City for nearly 66 years and they had two sons, Phil and Mark.
He was a member of Scotland Baptist Church for many years as well as First Baptist Church in Yazoo City.
He retired from Mississippi Chemical Corporation after 33 years at the age of 57. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and being in the country. He always planted a large garden that would produce enough vegetables to give to his family and share with his friends. He and Louise also followed their grandchildren playing sports And watching school programs while they were in high school and college.
He was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and prayed for the salvation of so many of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James N. and Hazel Mize Dixon; son, Richard Mark Dixon; brothers James Dixon, Thomas "Bud" Dixon; sisters, Nona Blakey, Vivian Kramer, Marie Trammell, and Shirley Netherland.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his lovely wife Louise Stricklin Dixon; his son, Phil Dixon (Mary) of Benton, MS: three grandchildren: Jeremy Dixon (Angela) of Brandon, MS, Bryan Dixon (Karen) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Audrey Creel (Jarrad) of Yazoo County. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Brooks Dixon, Dixon Creel, Aida Creel, Cole Kersten, Lane Kersten, Allan Lee, and Maddy Grace Lee. Also his sister-in-laws; Frances Dixon, Rita Dixon, and Ruth Ryan, brother-in-laws; Thomas, Roy, and Troy Stricklin.
Services were held July 3, 2017, at Stricklin-King Funeral Home. Mr. Dixon was buried in family plot in the Scotland Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the wonderful care they received from the Hederman Cancer Center, The Baptist Medical Center Jackson, and the Baptist Medical Center Yazoo Swing Bed.
