Mamie “Deucie” Rucker Williams was born Oct. 14, 1938 to the late Ben Doug Rucker and Clara Tucker Rucker of Benton. On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, she went to take her final rest with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Lee Williams; four brothers: Hollis Rucker, Roosevelt Rucker, Ben Rucker Jr. Charlie Rucker; two sisters; Alice Rucker, Vergie Oliver, four sisters-in-law: Odessa Rucker, Winnie Williams, Lucille Crockett, Emma Lou Owens; and one step-son: Charles Collins.
Mamie accepted Christ as her personal savior at any early age and joined Bell Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Benton under the leadership of Rev. NH Frazier. She later moved to Yazoo City and joined St. Emmanuel M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Charlie Ceasar. She lifted her Angelic Soprano voice in praise to her personal savior as a member of the choir until her health wouldn’t allow her.
Mamie was educated in the Yazoo County School District. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, and gardening. She loved to visit the Manna House to share clothes and food with the less fortunate. She worked for the E&W Sewing Factory, Bell Restaurant, Junior Food Mart and the Shoe Factory.
Mamie was united in holy matrimony to the late Oliver Lee Williams in 1958. This union was blessed with three beautiful children, whom she adored and loved very much. She also was the mother of two step-sons, Jessie James Henderson and Louis James Clark. Her precious memories will forever be in the hearts of her loving and caring family.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted daughter Rose Williams-Martin; Robert (Shirley) Williams, and Oliver (Evelyn) Williams all of Yazoo City; step-sons Jessie James (Mary) Henderson, Benton and Louis James ( Georgia) Clark, Yazoo City, six grandchildren Juan Cox, Jackson, MS; Rodney Williams, Toni Winters, Corey Cotton, Yazoo City, MS; Keisha Williams, Arlington, TX; Oliver Winters, Euless, TX; five great-grandchildren: Watayvia Milsap, NaTasia Williams, Arlington, TX; Onesie Freedman, Journei Jones, Yazoo City; Madison Cox, Jackson; one brother Willie (Cora) Rucker Jackson, MS; one sister Caldonia Lockhart, Yazoo City; six sisters in law: Mildred Williams, St Louis, MO; Hattie Barker, Chicago, IL; Maxine Williams, Kansas City, KS; Barbara (Hoover) Garrison, Ocala, FL; Minnie Williams, Leesburg, FL; four brothers-in-law: CL Williams (Gloria) Ocala, FL; Louis Williams, Leesburg, FL; Jeremiah Williams, Duncan, MS; Robert (Linda) Williams, Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
