Lucius E. Fouchè, 80, of Madison passed away on Sunday, March 12.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison at 11 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon. The Reverend Ed McDaniel will preside.
Mr. Fouchè was the fourth of five children born to Travis and Lucy Fouchè of Benton. Known to his family and childhood friends as “Tootsie”. His wife and many of his friends referred to him simply as Fouchè.
He grew up on his father’s farm and attended school at the small town of Benton, in Yazoo County. He played all sports but baseball was his best (and favorite) sport, followed by basketball and then football. He also played on a community baseball team that competed with other local teams in the area. Fouchè attended Holmes Jr. College at Goodman and Mississippi State University obtaining two degrees, Agriculture Engineering and a year later (1959) Civil Engineering.
After graduating from MSU, Fouchè worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers in Las Vegas, NV. After a few years he moved his family back to Mississippi and began working for the Farmers Homes Administration of the US Department of Agriculture. Later he established Fouchè & Associates, an engineering firm that he worked actively up until just a few years ago. After 40 plus years, he and the last remaining partner Harry Staley sold the firm and semi-retired.
Two of Fouchè’s greatest passions were his family and MSU sports. Lucius was involved in coaching his son (Jon) in youth baseball in the Jackson area and attending the many beauty pageants of his daughter Michele. He enjoyed taking his wife and other family and friends to home and away MSU games. He was an avid sportsman and turkey, duck and deer hunter.
He was active in the Bulldog club for 50+ years and attended countless football, basketball and baseball games from Hawaii to Maine and from Oregon to Florida. To his family, his nieces and nephews, he was the family Patriarch since the death of his older brother (Pete) in 2003. He always enjoyed gathering with the family on holidays and special occasions and loved going to Gulf Shores with his wife Patty who passed away in 2015. Fouchè had a heart of gold, always there to help others never asking for praise or recognition of the fact. Fouche’ was preceded in death by Patty his wife of 52 years, son Jon and daughter Michele; his brothers Travis Fouchè, Jr and Pete Fouchè and sister Alice Fouchè Lewis. He is survived by his sister Mary Frances Fouchè West (Bob) and sister-in-law Sue Fouchè; his nieces and nephews: Flip Fouchè, Brad Fouchè, Lori Fouchè Langley, Lisa Fouchè Johnston, Lynn Fouchè Mood, Eden Fouchè White, Danny Lewis, Tommy Lewis, Estelle West Mathis, Emily West Kintzel, and Elaine West Bergmeir along with a host of great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and the staff of St. Catherine’s Village for their kindness and compassionate care of our uncle. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials are sent to Bethany United Methodist Church @ 5509 Graball Freerun Road, Yazoo City, MS 39194.
