Mrs. Livie Posey Steinriede Simmons passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Visitation will be held Tuesday February 7 at 9:00 at St. Mary”s Catholic Church with the funeral immediately following at 11:00. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City. Stricklin-King Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Born in Yazoo City December 4, 1924, to Janie Posey and W.A. (Buck) Steinriede, Livie Posey was a lifelong resident of Yazoo City. She graduated from St. Clara’s Academy in Yazoo City and attended Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. A devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s, Livie was an avid reader and loved playing golf, cooking, and entertaining friends and family. She especially enjoyed the Wednesday hamburger group and dancing the night away during the Big Band era.
Survivors include her children: sons, Jim Simmons (Dale);Bill Simmons (Betty); John Simmons (Kim) and daughters Jane Turbeville (Brad) and Laurie McCarly (Hal); her grandchildren: Posey McGraw (Brian), Rob Simmons (Anne), Laura McMaster (Ron), Maggie Miller (Andy), Maris Nicholas (Reed),John Simmons, Emmy Millwood (Jacob), Janie and Claire Turbeville, and Catherine and Mary Eliza McCarly; and her great grandchildren: Lilla Riede, Katie Bell, and Mamie McGraw; Hudson Posey, James Robert, IV and Frances Simmons; Will, Livie, and Charlotte McMaster; Posey, Miles, Mark and Simms Miller; Stella and Saylor Nicholas; Caroline Burton and Margaret Millwood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Robert Simmons, her sister, Jane Fisher, and her great grandson, Shelton Burton.
