Lemuel Frederick Street, 72, of Yazoo City, peacefully passed on September 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Fred or “Coach Street,” a life-long resident of Yazoo City, spent over 35 years teaching, coaching, and entertaining his students and fellow faculty of the Yazoo City and Yazoo County School Districts, all while married and raising his family with Martha, his bride of 46 years.
In his retirement you could find him enjoying the country life at his parents’ home place, cutting grass at a leisurely pace, sipping on a cold Coca-Cola, or cheering on his Mississippi State Bulldogs. In 2008, he lovingly gained the title of “Pawk” from his granddaughter and wore that title proudly with each new addition. Every opportunity he had with his grandchildren was one well-spent on teaching, coaching, or simply loving and entertaining them.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and L.B. Street of Yazoo City. He is survived by his wife; son, Frederick (Mallory) of Jackson; son, Benjamin of Jackson; daughter, Emily (Skip) of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Caroline, W.C., Allison, and Rebecca Jane; brother, Dennis (Edith) of Fairhope, Alabama; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home. Visitation will be held fro 10 a.m. until the funeral service.
The family would like to express gratitude for the wonderful care and attention given by the healthcare providers at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center and Hospice Ministries of Jackson, and to all the loving friends of the Street family.
