Edna Kate “Kay” McClure Wever passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Martha Coker Greenhouses in Yazoo City. She was 83.
The sixth of ten children, Kay was born on August 20, 1933 in Ackerman, MS to Ethel Robert McClure and Christine Loretta Weatherall McClure and raised in a close Christian family. In 1951 she moved to Yazoo City where she began her career with the Bank of Yazoo City.
She married John William “Bud” Wever, Sr on November 9, 1952, after his return from the Korean War. They were married for 53 years until his death in 2005.
Kay was a devoted member of St. John’s United Methodist Church for thirty years and First United Methodist Church of Yazoo City for the last 15 years.
Survivors include her three children: Johnny Wever (Sharon) of Clinton, Jimmy Wever (Suzanne) of Yazoo City, and Janet Wever Adams (Larry) of Yazoo City. She is known as “Mammaw” to her seven grandchildren: John Wever of Ridgecrest, CA, Amy Wever of Yazoo City, Wes Wever of Monticello, ARK, Casey Wever Hinson of Yazoo City, Kyle Wever of Yazoo City, Chris Adams (Erin) of Madison, and Heather Adams Ledbetter (Hunter) of Little Yazoo and her eleven great-grandchildren. And from Ackerman, her brother James McClure, and sisters Brenda Wise (Dan), Linda Tharp (Ben), and Nita Connell (Jack).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Gerald A. Wever, her sisters Peggy Louis McClure and Mary Neil McClure King, and her brothers Robert Lamar McClure, Billy Donald McClure, and George Reginal McClure.
Mrs. Wever will be laid to rest beside her husband in a graveside service at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 P.M.officiated by Pastor Doug Wise, her nephew, with Stricklin-King Funeral Home assistance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 321 E. Thirteenth St., Yazoo City, MS 39194 or First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Washington St., Yazoo City, MS 39194 as Mom would want Christian values nurtured in other families.
