Harris “Brother” McGraw, 67, passed away February 10, 2018 at the Martha Coker Green Houses in Yazoo City after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer.
Harris was born June 27, 1950 in Yazoo City to Dicey Carr McGraw Barbour and the late James A. McGraw, Jr.
Survivors include his mother, Dicey McGraw Barbour; one brother, James “Mac/Jim” A. McGraw III (Mary) of Laguna Niguel, CA; four nieces, Patricia McGraw of Newport Beach, CA; Dicey McGraw Perrine (Brett) of Tustin, CA; Jamie McGraw of Newport Beach, CA; Anne McGraw of Nashville, TN; aunt, Peggy McGraw of Ridgeland, MS; cousins, Angie Barrier Pradat, Jeannie Barrier, Cindy McGraw, Chuck McGraw, Richard McGraw, Ellen McGraw Black, Marianne May Coker and Margaret May Killebrew.
Harris attended St Clara Academy and graduated from Yazoo City High School. He attended Holmes Community College and graduated from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Harris served in the U.S. Army as an air traffic controller; he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After a stay in Colorado, he returned to Mississippi and was employed by Hal and Mal’s and Poet’s restaurants in Jackson.
Harris had a great love for antique cars. He very seldom missed the TV show Meechum Auto Auctions. He also attended numerous car auctions from Birmingham to Dallas to California. His love for cars would even take him to Talladega. Harris lovingly embraced his cousins and enjoyed sharing holidays and special occasions with them. Harris was truly dedicated to his beloved mother, Dicey.
Funeral services were Feb. 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Yazoo City with the burial following at Glenwood Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were his cousins, Tom “Hog” McGraw and Michael Curran; Bryan Jones, Raphael Semmes, James Cresswell, Jim Eley, Bill Simmons, John Simmons and Robert McGinnis.
Honorary Pallbearers included cousins, Joe Curran, Chuck McGraw and Richard McGraw; Griffin Norquist, William Barbour, Haley Barbour, Wiley J. Barbour and Paul Hurst.
