George V. Ward Jr., 80, died March 10, 2016 at his home in Clinton.
Funeral services were Sunday at First Baptist Church in Clinton. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Ward was born Dec. 11, 1935 in Fairhope, Ala. to George V. Ward Sr. and Virla Guess Ward.
He graduated high school from UMS in Mobile, Ala., winning many awards as an outstanding football player. He graduated Pearl River Junior College, where he played football on the National Football team and later served several years on the Board of Alumni. Mr. Ward finished his football career at Mississippi College and graduated in 1960.
While at MC, he met Peggy Wilkinson Ward. They were married and were together 57 wonderful years.
Mr. Ward was an outstanding salesman, winning many awards with Southern Bags Corp., Dierks Corp. and Weyerhauser Corp. He loved people, doted on his family and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Wilkinson Ward, daughter Julia Murphy (Jerry) and their children, Amanda Jarvis, Zachary McCombs, Victoria Shinstock and Gloria Murphy; daughter Leigh Anne Parker (Bo) and their children Asa, Lailei and Corban; brother Steve Ward and sister Bernice Cazalas and nine great-grandchildren.
