Earl Lee Dycus, age 66, of Yazoo County, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of 29 years;daughters Debbie Yates and Cathy Dycus; grandchildren, Maribeth Jenkins, Brandon Lee, John Smith, Shanna Lee, Erica Smith, and Joseph Smith; “precious great-granddaughters,” Olivia Simmons and Mia Jenkins; and a host of nieces and nephews, and friends.
Earl was born March 14, 1954, in Detroit, MI to James Dycus and Genese Richardson Dycus. In 1985, he discovered God’s redemptive love and made a life changing decision to surrender all to Jesus Christ. Captivated by his desire for a deeper life in Christ, he was spiritually hungry and desired to be a more committed Christ-follower through application of the many Bible studies he attended. His love for Jesus propelled him to become a witness to those around him. Earl was awarded his Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Ministry in 2009, from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Inscribed in the seal of this degree is Matthew 28:18-20, “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” This scripture became Earl’s life focus. He expressed a deep sense of calling to share the redemption he found in Christ Jesus with others. He was also a vocational graduate of horticulture and received a certificate of completion in carpentry school.
Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Genese Dycus; father, James Dycus; step-mother, Vergie Dycus; brothers Ricky Dycus, Kenneth Dycus, and Terry Dycus.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 Earl discovered joy, peace, and purpose in his relationship with Jesus.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date once the Coronavirus crisis has passed. The family will announce the details for family and friends once it is safe to gather together for this celebration of life.
