Donald L. Counts Sr., 86, died April 10, 2021 at Yalabusha Nursing Home in Water Valley.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Vince Davis and Rev. Jessie Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Mr. Counts was born March 6, 1935 in Yazoo County to Shell and Eula Davis Counts. He was a retired salesman for Yazoo Motor Company and was known for being a positive influence on many young Yazooans as a coach.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances N. Counts; brother, Shelby Counts; sister Opel Hilderbrand; and a son-in-law, Lynn Bowden.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Counts of Yazoo City; daughter, Kathy Jo Bowden of Vidalia, La.; two sons, Donal Countys Jr. (Lisa) of Carriere and Gary Counts (Jennifer) of Oxford; two brothers, Leroy Counts of Madison and David “Son” Counts of Greenville; two sisters, Doris King and Vivian Holland, both of Yazoo City; a stepson, Charles James (Angie) of Yazoo City; stepdaughter, Melissa Tackett (Greg) of Clarksdale; eight grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Donald Counts III, Ryan Counts, Kevin Erickson, Barry Bowden, Connor Counts and Daniel Nicholas.
