Concia Nell Holmes Collins, 83, died May 20, 2017.
Funeral services were May 27 at King Solomon M.B. Church with Dr. Calvin E. Collins officiating.
Mrs. Collins was born April 26, 1934 in Benton. She was the youngest of four children born to Vallard and Mary Belle Holmes. She spent her formative years in Benton and reared her children there before later moving to Yazoo City.
At an early age, she confessed a belief in Christ and united with the New Liberty M.B. Church in Benton. She later joined the New Zion Baptist Church in Greenwood under the leadership of her son, Rev. Calvin E. Collins. She drove to Greenwood every Sunday until her health prevented her from driving. Thereafter, her grandchildren, great-grandson or daughter would drive her to church.
She was a homemaker and worked as a crossing guard for the public schools in Yazoo City. She had a passion for fishing, reading, working in the garden and taking care of babies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Collins; and a daughter, Gloria Collins Sanders.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Holmes of Chicago, Calvin Collins (Elnora) of Greenwood, Larry Collins (Rita) of Florence and Fred Collins (Camilia) of Yazoo City; two daughters, Gladys Fisher of Jackson and Mary Felton (Ceasar) of Benton; a sister, Alma Jean McGee of Jackson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and those whose lives she touched.
