A 79-year-old Yazoo County man was killed Friday afternoon when the tractor he was working on suddenly moved forward.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Charles Winstead was apparently checking for electrical problems on the tractor with a voltage meter when he became trapped underneath it.
“It appears the gentleman had stepped off the tractor under the shed,” Shivers said.
Eden and District 3 volunteers, Pafford Ambulance Service and the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident on Eden Midway Road.
Shivers said the tractor was apparently left in gear, which caused it to run over Winstead. The tractor continued moving until it was stopped by a tree behind the shed.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
