A Yazoo City man was recently denied bond after he allegedly abused a 23-month-old toddler left in his care.
Austin Tyson, 24, of 711 S. Sunset Dr., was charged with felony child abuse after an infant was found with multiple upper body and head wounds.
Yazoo County deputies were first dispatched on July 27 to a home on Terrell Park Drive in Bentonia in reference to an unresponsive child.
“Upon arrival, the child was alert and responsive,” said Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff. “As the deputies approached the mother and the child, they noticed bruising and swelling to the head and facial area of the child. After questioning the mother, the deputies were told that the child had been with a friend earlier.”
The child was then taken to a Jackson hospital to receive medical attention. The child has since been released.
The investigation led deputies to questioning Tyson, who had the child in his care the day of the incident.
“Tyson was charged with felony child abuse and taken to the county jail,” Sheriff said. “He was denied bond because he was already out on bond from a previous charge.”
