A Yazoo County woman is believed to have died of hypothermia during the severe winter weather last week.
Gloria Jean Humphries, 72, was found inside her home at 7346 Tinsley Road Friday shortly before 4 p.m. by deputies and her pastor after friends became concerned about her after she missed an appointment.
Deputies forced their way into the home when no one answered the door.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said the heating unit was not working inside Humphries’ home.
Shivers said that it appears that Humphries attempted to dial 911 on her cellular phone on Wednesday evening, but the call was not completed.
Yazoo County experienced temperatures in the teens for four nights last week with daytime highs below freezing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Humphries will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clint Ritchie officiating. Visitation begins at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m.
