Sheriff Jake Sheriff says it’s a miracle no one was killed in an accident this week where the driver believed to be responsible was charged with third offense DUI.
The three-vehicle accident happened around 11 p.m. Monday on U.S. 49 North near the entrance to Yazoo County High School.
Sheriff said a car driven by Sunny Blair, 38, of Yazoo City struck a Mazda pickup truck. The car drove over the truck and hit another vehicle, causing that vehicle to overturn.
“The car hit the truck in front of it so hard that it served like a ramp,” Sheriff said. “It pretty much cut the top off of the truck.”
Sheriff said Blair, who was arrested and taken to the Yazoo County Correctional Facility, wasn’t seriously injured.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were transported to University Medical Center in Jackson.
“This is a perfect example of why we take DUI enforcement so seriously,” Sheriff said. “Keeping intoxicated drivers off of our streets will always be a priority to me because it is senseless for innocent people to be injured or killed because of someone else’s carelessness.”
Sheriff thanked the District 3 Volunteer Fire Department for a quick response to help remove the injured drivers from their vehicles.
