Voters will head to the polls next week to cast their ballots for the 2016 election.
Local polls will open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said he is anticipating a smooth election with a large voter turnout at the Yazoo County polls.
“I think there will be a large voter turnout, but I don’t think it will be as large as the 2012 presidential election,” Coleman said. “We are behind on our absentee ballots than we were in 2012.”
Coleman said there were about 800 absentees ballots during the 2012 presidential election.
“As of today, we have at least half of that number,” Coleman said, Thursday morning. “But even though that number has declined, that doesn’t mean more people won’t be at the polls voting.”
The last day to cast an absentee ballot at the Circuit Clerk’s office is today from 8 a.m. until noon. Coleman said absentee ballots may still be mailed in no later than 5 p.m. Monday.
