The Yazoo County School District will be upgrading its camera systems at all four county schools and at the district central office.
Although camera systems are already in place at both elementary schools, the middle and high school, additional cameras will also be installed with the updated system. Dr. Ken Barron said not only will cameras be placed in the school hallways and doorways, but the cameras will be present within sporting areas and parking lots.
“We are going to keep a lot of them that are working, but these will be additional cameras as well,” Barron said. “We will have 220 cameras at all five locations; 82 of those are existing cameras. We will also have upgraded servers and operating systems.”
Barron added that the upgraded camera systems will fall under the required federal guidelines.
In other county school news, Barron reported that the district is seeing an increase in proficiency in its reading and math subject areas.
Attendance did take a hit during flu season.
And there was a total of 135 disciplinary referrals with 52 falling under dress code violations and 36 tardy reports.
