Yazoo County Tax Collector Travis Crimm Jr. said his office will be switching to a new statewide computer system in October, and he hopes the public will be patient while his staff makes the transition.
The Mississippi Automated Registration Vehicle Information Network, also known as MARVIN, will replace the software Mississippi tax collectors have been using for over 30 years.
Crimm said he believes the new program is going to make his office more efficient, but there could be some delays while his staff begins making the change.
“Hopefully there won’t be any major issues, but it could slow us down while we learn the system,” Crimm said. “We’ve been training for a couple of months to prepare for this. It may take us a little longer to process the information.”
Crimm said customers will be asked more questions now when they apply for motor vehicle tags. The system will provide more accurate information.
“When you give us an address you need to be sure you are giving us the right address,” Crimm said.
“You can be fined if you give us an incorrect address.”
One feature of the system Crimm thinks many taxpayers will like is the ability to sign up for email notifications when it’s time to renew your tag.
