A home invader remains behind bars after allegedly beating another man over the head with a handgun.
Daquan Powell, 25, was charged with aggravated assault and breaking and entering last Monday.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Powell was apprehended by authorities in Crystal Springs and was returned to Yazoo to face assault charges.
“A previous attack on a female happened about two weeks ago in a separate incident,” Gann said. “Powell broke into a home in retaliation over that prior incident. Once he got into the house, he attacked another young male, hitting him over the head a couple of times with a weapon.”
The weapon used was a handgun, and the victim had to receive medical attention afterward.
“The suspect broke into the occupied dwelling, and a female fled with a child out of a back window,” Gann said. “That is when the suspect attacked the male victim, who ended up getting stitches later.”
Gann said Powell fled the scene and headed to Crystal Springs, where he was apprehended by local authorities. He remained in the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility as of press time.
