Nine Yazoo County officials will receive salary increases under legislation that passed during the 2019 session.
All five county supervisors, the county board attorney, two justice court judges and the county attorney will each receive a $1,341 annual pay raise, totaling each of their yearly salaries to $46,041.
The pay raise stems from a legislation statute in last year’s session. The raises were to go into effect on Jan. 1, pending approval from the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors.
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors approved accepting the legislation-dictated increase during its board meeting last week. District 1 Supervisor Lee Moore cast the sole opposing vote, but he also did not decline the increase.
“I would almost want to vote on it today, and it go into effect in four years,” Moore said. “I don’t like voting for my own raise. My voters will remember that.”
Supervisors are paid based on the assessed valuation of the county they represent. County Administrator Donna Kraft said a raise has not been accepted in over ten years.
