Supervisor Willie Wright said he has received complaints from some Jonestown residents that there are too many speed bumps in the area. He said he welcomes any opinions, but the speed bumps aren’t going anywhere.
“I had parents coming to me, and we did what we were supposed to do,” Wright said, during the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting Friday. “We got the speed bumps, and put up signs to make sure everybody slowed down.”
Wright said the number of speed bumps may frustrate some drivers, but he is more concerned for the safety of children in the area.
“I had one man tell me if a car hits his grandchild, he is going to come out shooting,” Wright said. “I don’t blame him.”
Jim Warrington, county road manager, added that 90 percent of the speed bumps in the area were already there. He said very few had been added in addition to those already in place.
“I want to protect everyone over there,” Wright said. “I have got grandkids and children who live there. I am not going to wait until something happens to do something. I’m not worried about who comes in here and complains. Let them come.”
