District 2 Supervisor David Berry hopes to find a way to get a bullet proof vest for constable Robert Peterson, and Yazoo Crimestoppers may be able to help.
Berry said he believes Peterson has taken on more duties than constables traditionally have in Yazoo County.
“He’s like having another deputy out there,” Berry said. “He’s out there working hard writing tickets and serving warrants and bringing in revenue for the county.”
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said that he did not have any extra vests to spare, and there isn’t any money in his budget to purchase another vest.
Colon Johnston, a member of the local Crimestoppers board, said Crimestoppers has purchased bullet proof vests for deputies before and may be able to purchase one for Peterson.
In other business during the Board of Supervisors meeting District 1 Supervisor Van Foster said that while county employees received a five percent raise in the new budget year, the supervisors did not give themselves a pay increase.
