On Friday the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 402 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 16 new deaths (three of which were from May 5 - May 12, identified from death certificate reports). Mississippi's total of COVID-19 cases since March 11 now stands at 12,624 , with 596 deaths.
A total of 37 of the new cases reported today were among residents in long-term care facilities, and there are now 102 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities (where an outbreak is one or more cases among residents or staff).
Yazoo County currently has 198 reported cases of COVID-19 and two deaths. One of those deaths was an inmate at the federal prison. Around 50 cases in Yazoo County are federal inmates and staff members.
The state is reporting seven cases in Yazoo County within long term care facilities. The state does not provide details on the location of those cases.
