The state will hold a local meeting next week to provide insight on the takeover of the Yazoo City Municipal School District.
Achievement School District Superintendent Jermall Wright will meet with members of the Yazoo City community on May 15. Wright will take questions and provide information about the Humphreys County and Yazoo City school districts’ transition to the Achievement School District (ASD).
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m., May 15, at the L.T. Miller Community Center in Yazoo City.
In April, the Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) selected the Humphreys County and Yazoo City school districts to be part of the state’s first ASD. The establishment of the ASD follows a state law that requires the SBE to intervene in persistently underperforming school districts. The SBE will be the governing body of the ASD, and local school boards will be disbanded no later than June 1, 2019.
