A man who claimed to have been assaulted with a barbecue grill was later arrested as a suspect in the crime.
Johnathan Alexander was charged with aggravated assault following an altercation last week that left one man with stab wounds to his face and neck.
Cpt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the incident began as a physical altercation between the suspect and the victim at a home on Lee Street around 10 p.m. last Wednesday.
“When officers initially spoke to Alexander, he claimed that he was struck in the face with a barbecue grill,” Nevels said. “However, once officers spoke with the victim at the local emergency room, the victim said that Alexander assaulted him with a knife, causing lacerations to his face and head.”
The victim received stitches at the local hospital before being released.
Alexander remained in jail as of press time.
