What was first believed to be a potential “sniper in the woods” would later surface as two juveniles playing with firearms.
Terry Gann, with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said a juvenile was released with minor injuries after being accidentally shot by his friend. But the call first went out as a possible sniper near Griffin Spur.
“When the call first came through, it was reported to us that someone had shot the juvenile from the woods,” Gann said. “It went out on the dispatch radio as a sniper in the woods.”
But investigators later determined the juveniles were playing with a .22 rifle, claiming the shots came from the woods.
“One of the juveniles shot the other one in the elbow,” Gann said. “Through the investigation, we later determined it was an accident and no shots were fired from the woods.”
