Altercations, arguments, shootings and violence are brewing in one Yazoo City neighborhood. And it’s leading to bloodshed as investigators crack down on the offenders, some all within the same family.
Capt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the area surrounding First Street and Maynie Avenue has been a hot spot for activities with three arrests within the last couple of weeks.
And all three arrests have a connection.
Patrasheon Swinson and Jamerio Collum were both charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a man down after an altercation.
“The incident stemmed from an altercation on First and Maynie,” Nevels said. “It later led to a shooting in the 400 block of Martin Luther King Drive.”
The victim was shot several times, and he was able to identify the suspects. Both Swinson and Collum, who are juveniles were charged as adults with the shooting.
But both teenagers were also charged as adults in the Delta Ace burglary that resulted in 12 stolen guns landing in the streets.
“Following a hearing, both suspects were upgraded from being charged as juveniles to being charged as adults for two counts each of commercial burglary,” Nevels said.
In a separate incident, Megon Swinson, the mother of Patrasheon Swinson, was also charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling.
“Once again, it was an altercation that began on First and Maynie,” Nevels said. “It later led to the suspect shooting into a house.”
Nevels said officers are determined to curtail the violent acts and crimes that are occurring in the area.
