Following the retirement of Police Chief Andre Lloyd, Assistant Chief Ron Sampson Sr. has been selected to lead the department.
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen named Sampson as the new chief Monday, only a few days after Lloyd announced his retirement from the force.
Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. also told The Herald that the city council is allowing Sampson to select his own assistant as well.
Sampson brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to Yazoo City. He has served with the Jackson Police Department as well as the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office in both Administrative and Operational Management. He is a 2007 Graduate of the FBI National Academy and a member of FBI Law Enforcement Executives Association.
Sampson has his sights set on creating positive partnership throughout the community and organizing programs such as Neighborhood Watch, Chaplaincy Program, Citizens Police Academy, Youth Police Explores and conducting regular community meetings for each ward of the city.
Sampson said he is very excited and appreciative of the opportunity and responsibility given to him by the city council to serve the citizens and visitors of Yazoo City.
