With the sole attendee being a Yazoo Herald reporter, the Yazoo City Public Service Commission Board of Commissioners held its annual public budget hearing Tuesday afternoon. With no questions posed to the commissioners, the meeting was adjourned after the four-minute hearing.
According to data contained on a handout distributed during the hearing, the PSC will operate in FY2017 with operating revenue totaling $15,411,000, which is a 4.44 percent increase over the revised FY2016 budget. Operating expenses for FY2017 will come to $14,361,500, or 0.35 percent less than in the revised FY2016 budget.
Projected net income in FY2017 is $1,034,530, which represents a net income increase of 219.47 percent when contrasted with the net income of $323,825 seen in the revised FY2016 budget.
Pointing to a $95,250 loss in the water department as one of the reasons for the low net income in the revised FY2016 budget, PSC Manager Jimmy Wever said, “2016 was not a good year.”
The FY2017 budget will be formally adopted in the commissioners' Sept. 13 meeting beginning at 4 p.m.
