More drugs were taken off the streets thanks to Yazoo City officers making two separate felony drug arrests on Tuesday.
Lamiki Phillips was charged with possession of a controlled substance after officers arrested him, following a warrant issued by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear in court on a previous charge. Phillips is a habitual offender who has a lengthy history with local law enforcement.
Capt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said an officer recognized Phillips at the Phillips 66 gas station on Broadway and knew that the sheriff’s department was looking for him as well.
As Phillips exited his vehicle, officers approached him and discovered methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
Marcus Kirkland was also charged with possession of a controlled substance in a separate incident.
After a routine traffic stop, crack cocaine was discovered inside Kirkland’s vehicle.
