Parkview Church of God will be presenting a patriotic service this weekend with the hope that it will remind the country that God still listens during these turbulent times.
The local church’s choir and drama team will perform America: God Still Speaks Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and the public is invited to attend.
Rev. Ken Lynch said the performance will be a combination of both music and narration.
Lynch said the idea behind the performance sparked from his study of scripture and the story of Judea last spring.
“It was one that I hadn’t read in a long time,” he said. “It gripped me to the point that I felt led to try and create a musical drama to illustrate it with the public.”
Joining forces with his congregation, the musical narration began to take shape.
“It’s a story of an ancient nation facing an overwhelming threat to their very existence,” Lynch said. “It also tells how they chose to respond to this threat in a very unorthodox and surprising manner with great success.”
Lynch said it is remarkable how similar Judea’s story is with the current state of America.
“We too are facing incredible threats to our very way of life,” Lynch said. “I see the potential for us to respond with a similar response to our benefit. This is a call to the American church to respond biblically to the same threats our culture is facing.”
Lynch said he hopes the public will leave Parkview’s performance with a better understanding of how to address such threats the church faces today.
“Our country is accelerating with the removal of God, and when that happens it creates an environment where terrible things take His place,” Lynch said. “We see that happening today. But we have to be wise in our response. I hope this will encourage and promote others to see that it is not hopeless. God is still listening. There is still hope for our country.”
Lynch said he feels that God still has something to say to America about the threats it faces today.
“With Judea’s story, not only did they face a threat but God spoke to them when they looked for Him,” he said. “He has a message for us too.”
