A Yazoo mother was arrested this week and charged with child abuse after deputies responded to a local hospital following concerns by health workers.
Shanela Cain, 25, was charged with two counts of felony child abuse.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said deputies were called to a local hospital concerning three small children possibly being abused.
“Two of the children were found with marks on their bodies from head to toe,” Gann said. “These children had been abused excessively. Some injuries on the children appeared to be old injuries, but the remaining marks were fresh.”
Gann said the children were placed in protective custody, and the mother, Cain, was charged with felony child abuse.
