With the city’s garbage collection getting back on track, Mayor Diane Delaware personally thanked county leaders for their assistance during the troublesome crisis.
“We had a bit of an emergency in Yazoo City, which I am sure you are aware of,” Delaware said, during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. “And without you, we would have not been able to address it. I wanted to take the time to be a bit gracious here, and let you know that we appreciated it.”
Last month, county work crews arrived in Yazoo City with equipment to help the city tackle its garbage collection debacle. Broken down trucks led to the city falling behind in garbage collection, and some residents had seen their garbage pile up for two weeks.
The city of Yazoo City hired a contractor, Waste Pro, to begin collecting its garbage as part of a three-year contract. And the collection services have improved since mid-March.
But Delaware wanted to let county leaders know that the two entities came together when times were tough.
“The thing that it tells us is that no matter how we may talk together, when the time comes for Yazoo City and Yazoo County, we do what we must,” she said.
