A Yazoo County man pleads guilty to a number of crimes ranging from arson to grand larceny to fleeing from deputies.
Bradley Platt, 40, admitted his guilt to a range of charges involved with two separate incidents on the day his trial was scheduled to begin.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Platt was involved in two separate thefts, with one case leading to him setting fire to a vehicle.
Platt pleaded guilty to felony fleeing, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, selling a stolen firearm, grand larceny and arson.
“In the first case, we had acquired some information that he had just sold a gun that we suspected was stolen,” Gann said. “A few hours later, we discovered that a house had been burglarized. After comparing photographs of the gun in question with the homeowner, it was determined that the guns stolen were the ones Platt sold.”
After deputies approached Platt, he fled the scene in his vehicle, leading to a chase through Bentonia.
“He jumped the railroad tracks, tearing his vehicle up,” Gann said. “He got about two miles up the road before his car broke down. He then fled to the woods where he was quickly apprehended.”
In the second case, Gann said Platt walked to a hunting camp where he stole some items out of a parked truck.
“After the theft, he then set the truck on fire,” Gann said.
