A Yazoo City man with a long history of trouble with the law was shot by officers late Saturday evening.
Dontae Sibley remains in stable but critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after being shot multiple times by officers after he allegedly raised a gun towards them.
Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff said the incident occurred at 9:42 p.m. Saturday at the Shady Lane Apartment Complex.
“We first received a report that a male subject was shooting into occupied vehicles,” Sheriff said. “Deputies, police officers and a constable responded, meeting at the Shady Lane Mini-Mart. There they received information on what the subject was wearing, dark pants and a light top.”
Officers then identified Sibley as the subject matching that description at the apartment complex.
“They identified themselves as officers,” Sheriff said. “At that point, Sibley pointed a gun in the direction of the officers. Shots were fired, with Sibley being shot several times.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is the primary investigators in this ongoing investigation.
“The deputy involved as been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is protocol,” Sheriff said. “I can’t speak for the constable because he is an elected official.”
Sheriff said his department acted accordingly and professionally in the incident.
“Everything was done under the proper guidelines,” he said.
