Deputies had been searching for a burglary suspect for a while, but their luck changed when he landed behind bars in another county jail.
Michael Bassett, 35, was charged with two counts of house burglary.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Basset was the suspect in two separate house burglaries in Yazoo County.
“He broke into two houses and stole coins and change,” Gann said. “We have been trying to run him down for a while. We finally had enough evidence to identify him and issue a warrant.”
Gann said Bassett was found in a neighboring county jail for other charges. A hold was placed on him, and he was brought back to Yazoo County to face the two burglary charges.
In other county arrests:
• Caleb Mitchell was charged with intent to ravish.
Gann said Mitchell was charged after he allegedly assaulted a female victim inside her home. Gann said the victim was able to escape and notify authorities.
•Dewayne Davis and Charles Soenksen were both charged with possession of stolen firearms.
Gann said neighbors reported a suspicious vehicle to the deputies, who quickly responded to the area.
Locating the vehicle that matched the description provided by concerned citizens, deputies pulled them over for questioning. During the traffic stop, guns reported stolen from Brandon were found inside the vehicle.
