A Bentonia man has been charged with sexual battery in a case involving a six-year-old child.
Stephen Seawright, 59, was arrested after the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department received a report from the alleged victim’s mother. The child reported the inappropriate activity and identified the suspect.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said deputies arrested Seawright at his home.
“These are the kind of cases that are hard to work,” Sheriff said. “It’s hard to understand how anyone could harm a child.”
Justice Court Judge Pam May set bond at $40,000. Seawright was released from the Yazoo County Jail after posting bond.
In other law enforcement news, deputies recovered a stolen 6X6 ATV on property located on Old Highway 49. No arrests have been made in connection with that case yet, but the investigation continues.
